Itinerary
Day 1: Chandigarh to Shimla
Your journey begins as you leave the plains of Chandigarh and drive into the foothills of the Himalayas, heading toward Shimla, the former summer capital of British India. As the elevation rises, the scenery changes dramatically, offering cool mountain air and pine-covered hills. After reaching Shimla by afternoon, you can spend your evening leisurely walking on Mall Road, visiting Christ Church, and enjoying panoramic views from The Ridge. This day is meant to gently ease you into the mountains and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Shimla – Kufri – Sarahan – Sangla
After breakfast, hit the road early and drive through Kufri and Narkanda, enjoying views of apple orchards and cedar forests. You’ll stop at Sarahan, a quaint village known for the intricately carved wooden Bhimakali Temple, dedicated to the goddess Bhimakali. After soaking in the spiritual vibes, continue deeper into the Kinnaur Valley, following the Sutlej River. Day 3: Sangla – Chitkul – Sangla
Today is reserved for exploring Chitkul, often referred to as the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. Located at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, Chitkul enchants with its wooden houses, pristine river, and raw Himalayan charm. Walk along the banks of the Baspa River, meet friendly locals, and capture stunning photographs. After spending a relaxed and refreshing day amidst the untouched beauty of Chitkul, return to Sangla by late afternoon.

Day 4: Sangla – Reckong Peo – Kalpa – Nako
Leaving Sangla behind, drive toward Reckong Peo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur, from where you can get spectacular views of the Kinner Kailash peak. Continue the journey to Kalpa, a peaceful village known for its pine forests and traditional architecture. After a short halt, drive further to Nako, a quiet, high-altitude village nestled near a sacred lake. Spend the evening exploring Nako Lake, the monastery, and the peaceful village lanes that overlook the mountains of Spiti.

Day 5: Nako – Tabo – Dhankar – Kaza
The route today takes you officially into Spiti Valley, a cold desert region with stark landscapes and deep spiritual roots. Your first stop is Tabo, home to one of the oldest and most revered Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas, dating back over a thousand years. After exploring Tabo, proceed to Dhankar, where an ancient monastery clings dramatically to a cliffside, offering panoramic views of the confluence of Spiti and Pin rivers. Finally, arrive in Kaza, the largest settlement in Spiti and your base for the next couple of days.

Day 6: Kaza – Langza – Hikkim – Komic – Key Monastery – Kaza
This day is dedicated to local sightseeing around Kaza. Start your morning with a drive to Langza, known for its massive Buddha statue overlooking the valley. From there, head to Hikkim, where you can send a postcard from one of the world’s highest post offices. Continue to Komic, one of the highest motorable villages in the world. After soaking in the views and experiences of these remote hamlets, visit the majestic Key Monastery, perched on a hilltop and known for its vibrant murals, prayer rooms, and monastic library. Return to Kaza in the evening, filled with spiritual and visual memories.

Day 7: Kaza – Kunzum Pass – Rohtang Pass – Manali / Chandigarh
Begin your journey back early in the morning, heading toward Manali via Kunzum Pass and, if accessible, Rohtang Pass. Along the way, you may get the opportunity to visit Chandratal Lake, a crescent-shaped, high-altitude lake that mirrors the sky in its crystal-clear waters (visit subject to season and road conditions). This is one of the most scenic routes of the trip, transitioning from the barren mountains of Spiti to the lush greenery of Manali. You can end your tour in Manali for rest or continue driving back to Chandigarh, depending on your schedule.
